Is Your Nervous System Stuck in Fight or Flight?

Have you ever felt like your body just can’t seem to relax—no matter how hard you try?

Maybe you feel constantly overwhelmed, on edge, or exhausted… even when life doesn’t seem that stressful. For many people, this isn’t just in your head—it’s often a sign that your nervous system is stuck in a heightened “fight or flight” state.

Your nervous system is designed to help you respond to stress when needed. This “fight or flight” response can be helpful in short bursts. But when the body stays in that state for too long, it can begin to affect how you feel and function day to day. Because the body isn’t designed to be in growth and development while it’s in a constant state of protection.

Instead of moving fluidly between stress and rest, the body can get stuck with the “gas pedal” pressed down.

When that happens, it can show up in ways you might not expect.

You might notice things like:

  • Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or easily overstimulated

  • Difficulty relaxing or “turning your brain off”

  • Trouble sleeping or staying asleep

  • Digestive issues or frequent discomfort

  • Tension in the body, especially in the neck and shoulders

  • Feeling constantly tired, even after rest

For little ones, it can look different, but the root cause is often similar. You might notice:

  • Trouble settling or sleeping

  • Frequent meltdowns or big emotional swings

  • Sensitivity to noise, lights, or touch

  • Difficulty focusing or calming down

  • Constipation

  • Frequent illness

These are not just random symptoms—they can be signs that the nervous system is under stress and having a hard time regulating.

The good news is, your body is designed to heal and adapt.

When the nervous system is supported and able to shift out of that constant stress response, it can begin to access a more regulated, “rest and restore” state. This is where healing, digestion, sleep, and overall function can improve.

At Wildflower Family Chiropractic, our focus is on gently supporting the nervous system so your body can move out of that “fight or flight” pattern and back into balance.

Care is gentle, specific, and tailored to each individual—whether that’s a busy mom, worn out dad, a growing child, or a baby navigating their earliest stages of life.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like your body just isn’t quite functioning the way it should… you’re not alone.

And more importantly—you’re not stuck there.

If you’re curious about how nervous system–focused care could support you or your family, we’d love to connect.
